Slow Auction Day 12 Observations

  • I was thrilled to get Milledge for a buck. The 12th overall pick in the 2003 draft, he was the Mets' top prospect from 2005 to 2006. And he started to show why in 2008 when he launched 14 homers and stole 24 bases for the Nationals. He took a step backwards last year but claims a hand injury hampered him. Pittsburgh seems to be an ideal place for prospects to blossom, so I'm hopeful that the 24-year-old breaks out in 2010.
  • Matusz is another big-upside guy. The #4 overall pick in 2008 burst onto the minor-league scene last season by posting a 1.91 ERA over 19 starts while striking out more than a batter per inning. That earned him a trip to the Show, where he had limited success. Matusz has the makings of a fantasy stud; the question is whether he'll fulfill that potential so soon.
  • Vlad is a huge steal at $5. He should have a nice year playing DH in Texas. I nominated him and hoped to sneak him by at $4 but unfortunately had to let him ride at $5, as I was running low on funds.

More tomorrow....
