Observations

  • Wagner at $11 seems like a great deal for me, but it's not surprising given the excessively low prices on closers in this league. That now gives me four closers: Wagner, Rivera, Bailey, and Hoffman. In a twelve-team league I figure that ought to net me twelve points in saves. Like I mentioned yesterday, I probably could have gotten the same result for $12 or so less had I targeted guys like Aardsma instead of Rivera, but I wouldn't say I'm regretful. My guys have more job security than lower end closers and will help bring down my ERA and WHIP a bit.
  • I was relieved to get Zambrano, Porcello, and Happ for short money. Had I not been able to get some legit SPs like those guys, I may have started to question my strategy of paying for hitting and saves. With the hitters and relievers I have, I figure I can afford to take a hit on wins and Ks, but I may not even have to if the above-mentioned guys can tap into some of their upside. Maybe a rededicated, fitter Zambrano will return to his pre-2007 form. Maybe the 21-year-old Porcello will enjoy a break-out season. Maybe Happ, who finished with a 2.93 ERA last season, won't take as big a step back as many seem to think he will. Time will tell!
  • Pena is a nice pickup for $8. Sure he'll kill your BA, but he'll obviously provide a ton of runs, RBI and HR.
  • Podsednik at $1 is a great get. That's just way too low for a leadoff hitter. I would have entered the bidding, but I have an overabundance of steals.
  • Chapman could pay off big at just $4
  • Rajai Davis could be a huge steal if he ends up getting regular playing time.
